An Easy Way to Save $80 on CLEAR Membership

Written by on July 6, 2017 in Travel Deals, Travel Tips

I wrote last week about the CLEAR airport security program. Its “retail” cost of $179 may be a little on the steep side — but you can save almost 50% just by signing up for Delta‘s SkyMiles program.Delta owns a 5% share in CLEAR.  Naturally, they want to drive business toward their investment.

One way is by offering heavily discounted membership rates to SkyMiles members.

A CLEAR cube is displayed at an enrollment station at Las Vegas McCarran Airport.

Delta SkyMiles Members CLEAR Discounts

I briefly mentioned this a little last week — but really want to emphasize how easy it is score this discount.

General SkyMiles members — those without any elite status — pay $99/year for CLEAR.

That 45% discount — an $80 savings — is certainly nothing to sneeze at. (Take advantage of the discount here.)

Never fly Delta? Don’t panic. You can still take advantage of the CLEAR discount without ever setting foot on a Delta planes (though I personally think they provide one of the best domestic products :-)). You may be a loyal Southwest Airlines frequent flyer or #UnitedProud until the day you die. That’s fine.

  1. Create an email account you’ll rarely check
  2. Sign up for SkyMiles
  3. Visit CLEAR’s SkyMiles member page

Deeper Discounts for Medallion Members

Delta Silver, Gold, and Platinum members receive an even bigger break: a full $100 discount each year, bringing the annual fee to only $79. (CLEAR is free for Diamond Medallions.)

That’s definitely worth considering. If you’ve achieved Medallion status, you probably fly a bunch (and/or spend a ton across a few Delta branded American Express credit cards) and would enjoy CLEAR.
